Thomas A. Fudge is author of 'The Magnificent Ride: First Reformation in Hussite Bohemia' and 'The Crusade Against the Heretics in Bohemia, 1418-1437'. He has worked as Senior Lecturer in European History at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. More recently he taught in the Texas prison system and served as Director of the Hewitt Research Foundation in Washington.
An up to date, clear and authoritative treatment of Jan Hus. Hus is astutely and convincingly contextualized in a balanced and assured ensemble of different but complementary approaches. The whole book is set out on the basis of authority yet Fudge writes deftly and accessibly, handling technical themes with finesse.

It will be very valuable for those studying late medieval thought and the impact of religious and philosophical thinkers on society as a whole. I particularly liked Fudge's in-depth discussion of Hus's theology and spirituality. The treatment of the commemoration of Hus, the iconography which was produced, and the survey of the historiography is also very impressive and extremely useful, both for scholars and for students.
