Religion

Approaching Religious Studies as a human science, I.B.Tauris explores the great diversity of human belief through focused investigation of its very variety. While the 'great' traditions – Judaism, Zoroastrianism, Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism, Daoism and Jainism – are all represented, our publishing, whether through research monographs, textbooks or general books, makes space for the broader issues and topics that are generally designated 'religious'. 'A man lives by believing something: not by debating and arguing about many things', wrote Thomas Carlyle. Yet it is precisely in the liveliest discussion that people so often decide by what values, religious or otherwise, they wish to live. It is in this spirit of inclusive openmindedness that we aim to engage agnostics and sceptics (and atheism is not excluded from our publishing) as much as formal students and scholars of religion.
